Why is it that the young men and women are so determined to
act as suicide bombers to destroy our world as much as possible? What is the
reason behind this desperate act?
If one hears the response from neighbours concerning these "terrorists" they are described
as very normal people, appearing kind and gentle, not the least type of person
one might associate with terrorism. Yet, they are prepared to give their lives
for their cause, for their God, believing in a holy purpose, while we consider
them as murderers and evil. Most certainly, the people behind these acts of
terrorism, the planners who are so able to brainwash others, are evil, without
a doubt. But, are we not to blame in some way for creating a world where young
people feel so disillusioned that they are susceptible to being persuaded
to act in this way?
What happens to a young child during its early years that causes this behaviour later in life? The one thing that seems common amongst the terrorists is that they seem to share a close bonding and mission which is lacking in their normal life. Everyone needs hope to survive through life, so their life must be devoid of any. That is also a tragedy, apart from the loss of innocent lives amongst the victims of these outrages.
If children are to grow up in a balanced world, then man has to become balanced within himself first. Are all these outrageous acts of brutal murder, such as the Dunblane massacre and other terrorist events, the results of a desperate and unhealthy upbringing? Is this insane world affected by a "thought virus" which is causing some of us to behave in an unbalanced way? Certainly, some of the inappropriate TV programmes, films and computer games do have a subliminal effect on us, serving the more basic nature of our subconscious. Is it possible that the more violent and unhealthy effects of some of this material which feeds a need for constant excitement plants an imbalanced aggression deeply within us, or are we totally immune to such outside stimulus? Research indicates that the unhealthy aspects of some media does affect children in a negative way.
The answer might be to provide a better and more secure childhood for our future generations, where truth is never compromised in any situation, honour remains above all things and people learn to treat each other in graciousness, even their enemies.
